Changes to Council services on day of Her Majesty’s State Funeral
With the day of Her Majesty The Queen’s State Funeral being marked as a bank holiday, some changes will be made to Swindon Borough Council’s services on Monday (19 September).

Waste and recycling collections will take place, but the crews will be starting at an earlier time to allow them to complete their rounds before the start of the funeral, which is scheduled to begin at 11am.
Residents who are due to have their waste or recycling collected on Monday are advised to put their waste out by 5am, rather than the usual time of 6.30am, to allow the crews to begin their rounds earlier.
The Household Waste Recycling Centre (HWRC) in Cheney Manor industrial estate will be closed on Monday and anyone who has an appointment booked is asked to re-schedule for another day through the Council’s website.
The core libraries in the town (Central, Highworth, North Swindon, Park and West Swindon) and the STEAM Museum will also be closed on Monday.
Councillor Gary Sumner, Deputy Leader of Swindon Borough Council, said: “This is an incredibly sad time for the country as we mourn the loss of Her Majesty The Queen.
“Although there is a need to keep the Council’s core services running, it is important that we mark this occasion and respect the national guidance.
“We therefore need to make some changes to services on the day of the State Funeral. This also allows as many of our members of staff as possible to mark the day as they wish.”
A service of thanksgiving for the life of Queen Elizabeth II is also being held on Friday, 16 September at 7.00pm at Christ Church (26 Cricklade St, Swindon SN1 3HG).
