Lydiard House steps back in time for Christmas display

Visitors to Lydiard House will be able to step back in time and experience what the decorated halls would have been like in Georgian times over the festive season.

The State Rooms of the Swindon Borough Council-owned House will be adorned with traditional foliage, a kissing ball, and a beautifully decorated Christmas tree. Floral decorations will also line the mantle-pieces and doorways to the State Rooms, adding splendour and festivity to the house.

The decorations will be expertly arranged once again by the Royal Wootton Bassett Ladies Flower Arranging Club.

A Country House Christmas runs from tomorrow (21 Nov) until Sunday, 23 December (closed Mondays and Tuesdays) and standard admission applies. No booking is required.

Anyone experiencing the magic of Christmas at Lydiard House can combine their visit with a delicious Festive Afternoon Tea and fascinating guided tour.

The tour will present the rich history of the St John family and how Christmas was celebrated on the Lydiard Estate. For just £19.95 per person, visitors can enjoy hand-cut sandwiches, a mince pie, and a selection of festive cakes, served with tea or mulled wine. Reservations are available throughout December from Wednesdays to Sundays from 11am to 2pm.

Booking is required for Lydiard’s Festive Afternoon Tea and guided tour. To reserve a time please call 01793 465270. Full payment over the phone is required to secure your booking and a minimum of 24-hours’ notice is required.

Lydiard House will close on December 23, after which it will reopen in March. More details and times are available at: www.lydiardpark.org.uk.
