Swindon’s Shared Lives and Reablement services earns ‘Good’ CQC rating
Adults in Swindon are being supported to regain their independence and confidence through a Council teams rated as ‘Good’ by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

Both the Council’s Shared Lives and Reablement services help adults maintain or regain their independence and achieve positive outcomes, and inspectors reporting on the services noted that people receiving support often left the service with reduced care and support needs.
The Reablement service supports those aged over 18 following illness, injury or a hospital stay, helping them rebuild everyday skills and remain living independently for as long as possible. Meanwhile, the Shared Lives services matches adults who need care and support with approved carers who welcome them into their homes and communities. The service provides personalised, family-based support tailored to individual needs and circumstances.
The rating follows an inspection in September, which found the service was performing strongly across all areas assessed. It comes after the Council’s wider Adult Services provision was also judged ‘Good’ by inspectors earlier this year.
Councillor Vinay Manro, Swindon Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Adults and Health, said: “This is a fantastic result and a reflection of the high standards our residents rightly expect from adult social care services.
“Helping people maintain their independence and live fulfilling lives in their communities is at the heart of what we do. Our Reablement team plays a vital role in helping residents regain confidence and everyday skills following illness or a stay in hospital, while our Shared Lives carers provide personalised support in a family-based environment, helping people build relationships, develop skills and live fulfilling lives as active members of their communities
“While we are always looking to improve, this rating recognises the dedication, professionalism and compassion shown by our teams every day in helping residents achieve the best possible outcomes.
“I would like to thank everyone involved for this achievement and for the outstanding care and support they provide to residents and their families.”
