Council takes investment proposition to global aerospace and defence leaders

Representatives from the Council’s Inward Investment team met with a range of aerospace, defence and technology businesses from across the UK and overseas, highlighting the opportunities available in Swindon and encouraging companies to consider the Borough as a base for investment, expansion and innovation.

The team presented Swindon’s Defence Sector Proposition, demonstrating how the Borough’s strategic location, skilled workforce and growing cluster of advanced engineering and manufacturing companies make it an attractive destination for businesses looking to grow in the UK.

A key objective of the visit was to raise Swindon’s profile among companies that may not yet have considered the town as an investment destination. Discussions focused on the Borough’s strengths as well as the opportunities available to businesses looking to establish or expand their presence in the UK.

The delegation also met with representatives from organisations already investing in or operating from Swindon, including TEKEVER, iCOMAT and UK Research and Innovation (UKRI), whose presence helps demonstrate the strength and growing reputation of the local aerospace and defence sector.

At the airshow, TEKEVER unveiled its new AR6 family of heavy-lift autonomous systems, which the company has confirmed will be produced at its Swindon manufacturing hub.

The launch highlighted the town’s growing role in supporting advanced defence and aerospace manufacturing and provided a powerful example of the innovative technologies being developed by businesses investing in the Borough.

Councillor Gary Sumner, Leader of Swindon Borough Council, said: “Farnborough provides a unique opportunity to put Swindon in front of companies from across the globe and demonstrate why our borough is such an attractive place to invest.

“We want more businesses to recognise what those already operating here have discovered and that Swindon offers the location, talent, infrastructure and ambition needed to support long-term growth.

“Our focus is firmly on attracting new investment, creating high-quality jobs for residents and ensuring Swindon continues to strengthen its reputation as a centre for advanced manufacturing, aerospace and defence.”

Following the airshow, the Council’s Inward Investment team will continue discussions with prospective investors and industry leaders, building on the connections made at Farnborough to bring new opportunities, jobs and investment to Swindon.
