Funded by the Government, Swindon Borough Council has been allocated £8.3m to support low-income households over the next three years through the Crisis and Resilience Fund (CRF).

The Crisis and Resilience Fund replaces the Household Support Fund and is focused on both prevention and crisis support.

Funding runs until 31 March 2029, and the Council will use the money to provide support to those in crisis, deliver financial support towards housing, fund services which improve financial resilience and co-ordinate activity between local organisations.

Designed to support individuals who have experienced a sudden financial shock, or who are at risk of entering crisis, applications for financial support through the fund are now open via the Council website. Successful applications from eligible residents will result in a one-off crisis payment alongside referrals to additional services to improve financial resilience.

The Council also intends to use the fund to support emergency food provision, deliver wraparound support to people in crisis and provide grants to organisations delivering information, support and advice.

Kirston Nelson, Corporate Director for Prevention and Communities, said: “The Crisis and Resilience Fund will both help us to help families be financially resilient and deliver support to residents in crisis.

“I would encourage anyone who needs support, advice and guidance to reach out at the earliest possible stage so that we can deliver the help that is needed. Anyone who is at risk of immediate financial hardship can now apply for support on our website or seek additional support by speaking to Citizens Advice Swindon.”

Citizens Advice Swindon can be contacted 0808 278 7813 between 10am and 4pm, Monday to Friday, for financial support and advice. Further information about local support is available on the Council’s Cost of Living webpage. The Government’s Cost of Living Hub also provides a wide range of information on national support available.

To apply for support, residents are invited to search for ‘Crisis and Resilience fund’ on the Council website.
