The work, which began in early October and finished on schedule, was delivered by the Council’s highways contractor, Connors. Roads were prioritised under the Local Transport Plan, agreed by the Council's Cabinet earlier this year, to ensure investment is targeted where it is needed most.

This forms part of the Council’s annual major and minor road resurfacing programme, which will see just over £3.75m invested to fix deteriorating road surfaces across the Borough.

Overall, the Council has a budget of more than £5m for road maintenance in the 2025/26 financial year, including £170,000 for reactive pothole repairs. The funding also includes patching repairs, refreshing road markings and traffic light maintenance.

Roads that have benefited from the recent repairs include:

  • Hay Lane
  • Kingswood Avenue
  • Beech Avenue
  • Collett Avenue
  • Martinsfield
  • Southbrook Street

The Council’s Highways team is also planning a programme of works for major roads and footpaths to begin in the new year. More details on the exact locations will be announced closer to the time.

Councillor Chris Watts, Swindon Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for the Environment and Transport, said: “Residents tell us time and time again that better roads matter. That’s why, despite a challenging financial picture, we’re investing every pound wisely to make our roads safer and more reliable.

“This programme of 19 roads is a step forward in tackling the £50m backlog of road repairs which have built up over a number of years, and I’m pleased works were completed on time, with minimal disruption for residents.

“We’re determined to keep Swindon moving. Even though this phase is complete, our wider programme continues, including innovative thermal patching to make repairs more sustainable and long-lasting.”
