From Monday (20 October), Swindon Borough Council will start repairs on 19 roads as part of its annual minor resurfacing programme. The works will continue until early December.
The improvement work forms part of the Council’s annual major and minor road resurfacing programme, which will see just over £3.75m invested to fix deteriorating road surfaces across the Borough.
Overall the Council will be spending more than £5m on road maintenance in the 2025/26 financial year, including £170,000 on reactive pothole repairs. The funding also includes patching repairs, refreshing road markings and traffic light maintenance.
Roads being resurfaced include:
- The entrance road to the Orbital Shopping Centre
- Kingswood Avenue
- Pewsham Road
- Hay Lane
- Wilcot Avenue
- Beech Avenue
- Shrivenham Road
To complete the work as quickly and safely as possible, roads will be closed between 8am and 6pm during their scheduled repair periods, except the Orbital works which will be completed overnight (between 8pm and 6am). Access will be maintained for residents, and signed diversions will be in place for other road users.
Residents and businesses affected by the works have been notified by letter.
Councillor Chris Watts, Swindon Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for the Environment and Transport, said: “I’m pleased this programme will continue our work to tackle Swindon’s backlog of road repairs.
“This progress is only possible thanks to the additional funding we received from central government earlier this year. But we know there’s still more to do.
“Our teams have already delivered excellent results this year, and we’re on track to complete more repairs on our highways than we did in 2024/25.
“And we’re not stopping here. We’re already planning the next phase of works, with more details to be shared in 2026.”
Further details of upcoming and ongoing works, from the Council and other organisations, can be found on the one.network website.
The latest programme builds on the thousands of road repairs the Council has already completed in 2025.
