Funding from Swindon Borough Council and support from local businesses will see Wharf Green host everything from outdoor starlit cinema nights to out-of-this-world planetarium experiences, available to everyone for free during the school holidays.

Each weekend will bring a different theme with a marquee activity taking place. Food vendors will also be in attendance as well as a number of other activities related to the theme. Wednesday’s will keep the atmosphere flowing with interactive workshops including circus skills and hands-on art sessions.

When the events aren’t on, the pop-up park will remain available for people to use throughout the month.

Events taking place across the month include:

  • Creative Arts Weekend – Saturday, 2 and Sunday, 3 August
  • Circus School - Wednesday. 6 August
  • Sports Weekend - Saturday, 9 and Sunday, 10 August
  • Wheelie Wednesday – Wednesday, 13 August
  • Outdoor Cinema – Saturday, 16 and Sunday, 17 August
  • Art Workshop and Garden Party – Wednesday, 20 August
  • Planetarium – Saturday, 23 and Sunday, 24 August
  • Live music finale – Monday, 25 August

All events and activities are free, but are subject to availability and weather conditions.

Councillor Marina Strinkovsky, Swindon Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Placemaking and Planning, said: “The Summer at the Green events are nearly here, and it’s going to be a great month for the children (both little and big) of Swindon.

“There will be workshops and arts and crafts to get stuck in to, as well as the amazing planetarium and outdoor cinema for the whole family.

“We’ll have activities every weekend and also on Wednesdays, so parents will have lots of opportunities to find things for the kids to do over the holiday.”

Supporting the month are a variety of local organisations and businesses including Fandangos, ATB Shop, British Cycling, Swindon Dance, Create Studios, Artsite, National Trust, English Heritage, Historic England and Swindon Dance.

All activities will take place between 11am and 5pm. More information about all of the activities taking place can be found on the Summer at the Green website.
