Transport for disabled and older people

Local buses and concessionary bus pass

You can check your eligibility and apply for a concessionary bus pass.

By law, a bus must:

  • be accessible for disabled users
  • have space for at least one wheelchair on board

For more information on bus travel in Swindon, see: Public transport companies

Community transport

Community transport helps older or disabled people get out and about to visit shops and other local amenities.

We offer concessionary travel vouchers to people who qualify for the English National Concessionary Travel Scheme.

People who use a wheelchair or walking frame can use the vouchers with hackney carriage or private hire vehicles that participate in the scheme.

Parking for disabled drivers

You can check your eligibility and apply for a Blue Badge. This helps you park closer to the places you want to visit.

Motability Scheme

You may be able to exchange your mobility allowance for a vehicle that suits you See: Motability

Swindon Shopmobility

This scheme provides a selection of manually-propelled and battery-powered wheelchairs and scooters for hire. See: Swindon Shopmobility

Rail

You may qualify for a Senior Railcard or Disabled Persons Railcard. See: Get a Railcard
