Fishing season and rules

The fishing season at Coate Water runs from 15 June to 15 March each year.

Before you buy tickets or apply for a permit, you must have a valid Environment Agency fishing rod licence. You can get one on GOV.UK: buy a fishing licence.


Bankside day tickets

You can fish from the bank in designated fishing areas from 7.30am to dusk.

The warden issues tickets on the day during fishing checks. You can only pay in cash.

Prices

  • Standard: £8
  • Junior: £5
  • Concession: £5

Day season permits

A day season permit lets you fish from the bank from 7.30am to dusk throughout the fishing season.

Prices

  • Standard: £80
  • Junior: £50
  • Concession: £50

24-hour season permits

A 24-hour season permit lets you camp overnight and fish on site throughout the fishing season.

Prices

  • Standard: £300
  • Concession: £180

You can download one form for both types of season permit below.

You need to provide two passport photos and a valid fishing rod licence with your application.

The warden team can process permits from 8.00am to 4.00pm, seven days a week.

Call the wardens on 07824 550463 to arrange your permit in advance.

You can pay by cash or cheque made payable to "Swindon Borough Council".


Concession rates

Concession rates apply if you are:

  • of state pension age, or aged 66 or over
  • receiving income support or disability allowance
  • a full-time adult student

Please note: you must show proof of your support allowance or student placement, and photo ID, when you buy your ticket or permit. If you do not, the discount will not be applied.

This can be a paper letter or document, or an email on your phone. The name on the proof must match the name on your photo ID.
