Coronavirus (COVID-19)

We are publishing frequent updates about the impact the Coronavirus outbreak is having on council services, along with health guidance and other key information for residents and businesses.

Advice for taxi passengers

The Council takes any complaint about licensed drivers, vehicles and operators very seriously and carries out a thorough investigation in each case. All complaints should be made in writing, preferably on the customer comment form below. Please ensure you include as much detail as possible (who, what, when, where, why) and include the driver's badge number and/or vehicle plate number or registration number. We are especially interested in knowing about unlicensed drivers working in the Borough, and are working with the local police to eradicate this.

Please note that the Council do not employ Hackney Carriage or Private Hire drivers - the majority are self-employed.

Have you received excellent service from a Hackney Carriage or Private Hire driver or Operator? Have they gone that extra mile? We'd be pleased to hear about this too – please complete the Customer Comments Form (PDF) and return to us.

Hackney Carriage fares are set by the Council and a Fare Chart should be carried in each licensed Hackney Carriage.

Fares are based on three elements:

  • The time of day
  • The time taken to complete the journey
  • The length of journey

Fares charged by Private Hire vehicles are not controlled by the Council and you are advised to agree a fare with the operator when booking your journey.
