Apply for planning permission
Pre-application advice
We have a pre-application advice service for householder development and non-householder development. This service aims to provide consistent and timely advice and help reduce the risks involved in making a planning application. It can also help to reduce the time taken to progress an application through the formal decision making process.
If you are proposing a major development you should look at our planning performance agreements page. This is a really useful tool for both pre-application advice and for putting in place a way of managing the whole planning process.

Do you need planning permission?
Further information on whether or not you need planning permission, is available on the Planning Portal website.
Do you need building regulations approval?
If you need separate approval for a new building extension or major alteration, you should check if you need building regulations approval. This approval will ensure the work reaches the required standards so that it is safe and energy efficient.
Great crested newts
If your site is affected by great crested newts, the council is part of Natural England’s district level licensing scheme, which has been introduced to make applying for a great crested newts mitigation licence much easier. For further information, see the Great crested newt mitigation licence webpage.
