New office building: Zurich/Unity Place
One of the town’s major employers, Zurich has built its new state-of-the-art offices in Swindon on part of the 20-acre former industrial site next to Fleming Way (known as Kimmerfields).
Named Unity Place, the offices sit on land acquired by the Council in March 2021 through a land swap deal with Homes England.
Once the office building is completed, we will buy the building and lease it back to Zurich on a long lease.
This commercial deal, taken following professional expert advice, will provide us with a guaranteed rental income for the next 20 years.
The building provides over 100,000 square feet of high-quality office space over six floors with a terrace and function space at roof level. Over 950 staff can be accommodated with a modern workspace designed to enhance their wellbeing and the local environment.
The building is targeting a BREEAM rating of ‘Excellent’ on completion and Zurich have placed sustainability at the forefront of the design and operation of the building, including:
- LED lighting throughout
- a rooftop beehive
- electricity from renewable sources
- onsite electric car charging points
- extra cycling facilities
- the collection of rainwater to water plants
- the use of sustainable furniture fabric - one type of furniture item uses fabric made from ocean plastics, and others are made using a water free manufacturing processes
