Biodiversity Duty

The Environment Act 2021 strengthened the biodiversity duty for local authorities in England. This duty requires us to conserve and improve biodiversity.

How we meet the biodiversity duty

To meet the strengthened duty, we must:

  • consider how we can conserve and improve biodiversity
  • agree policies and objectives based on this work
  • take action to deliver these policies and achieve our objectives

We have reviewed the action we can take. We have used this review to produce a draft of our first biodiversity duty report.

The report explains our approach to protecting biodiversity and how we plan to meet our reporting duties.
