In Your Area

Street Watch

Street Watch Swindon is run by local residents and is fully supported by Swindon Community Safety Partnership which includes Wiltshire Police and Swindon Borough Council.

Do  you

  • Take pride in where you live?
  • Walk in your area on a regular basis?
  • Want to keep your area safe?
  • Want to create a sense of belonging in your community?
  • Have a dog that you take for regular walks?

Then you are someone who should be involved in Street Watch Swindon

Why Street Watch?

The British Crime Survey indicates that Swindon has one of the lowest crime rates in the country  but what we do find is that people living and working in Swindon have a disproportionate fear of crime.

Street Watch is a national initiative which seeks to support and make it possible for residents to take some responsibility for their neighbourhood.

Street Watch schemes are run by local residents who give 2 hours a month to support their local community.

It is regulated by a constitution, operating guidance, codes of conduct, risk assessment and all members are police checked. Street Watch is covered by full public liability and accident/injury insurance.

Street Watch schemes in Swindon are fully supported by Swindon Community Safety Partnership which includes Wiltshire Police and Swindon Borough Council.

Why should I volunteer?

We know that when residents choose to  take ownership of their neighbourhoods they make where they live feel safer, communities become stronger and incidents of crime and anti-social behaviour decrease.

  • You would only be asked to give 2 hours a month to support your neighbours and community.
  • It is an opportunity to meet like minded residents, who also care about where they live.
  • You can provide a visible reassuring presence to those residents who feel vulnerable.
  • Help to reduce the fear of crime.
  • Provide stronger community links with your local Neighbourhood Policing Team.
  • Walk around in pairs at any time or date that suits you.
  • You can raise awareness of any crime or other issues in your area.
  • You may be a dog walker, why not combine the two?

I’m interested, what happens next?
