Community Speed Watch In Swindon

Speeding is one of the main issues that the  residents of Swindon raise as being an issue in their locality. It can be a factor in road traffic collisions and impacts on the day to day lives of people. Community Speed Watch offers local people the opportunity to help reduce traffic speeds, make their roads safer and improve the quality of life in their community

How does it work?

Community Speed Watch can only operate on roads with a 30 or 40 mph limit. Volunteers will be given specialist training in the use of hand held speed devices so that they can record the speed of passing vehicles. Motorists caught speeding by volunteers are sent a warning letter from the police. Further action will be taken against persistent offenders by Wiltshire Police.

What next?

Anyone can raise speeding issues with their locality leads or local councillors. You will need to provide details of exactly where the speeding is occurring. Your issue will be investigated and if it is found that the site meets the criteria for Community Speed Watch you will be invited to gather together a small group of volunteers. The Community Safety Speed Watch co-ordinator will be on hand to assist you and to arrange everything you need to become a Community Speed Watch volunteer. The schemes will be supported by the police
