Learning & Community

At Swindon Museum & Art Gallery, we put learning at the heart of everything we do. Through family activities, schools visits, outreach projects, FE and HE placements, talks and tours, we offer opportunities for people to learn from and be inspired by our collections.

For families:

There are museum and gallery trails available to encourage younger explorers to discover the Museum and Gallery, as well as free activity stations and hands-on activities in all of the galleries. We offer regular Saturday and school holiday drop-in creative workshops for children of all ages. From our ever-popular dinosaur workshops to arts and crafts, there is something for everyone!

For schools:

On-site - there are three self-led learning packages available for schools to help students discover the Museum and Art Collections. These are aimed at KS2 and 3, but there are many opportunities to engage other Key Stages. Please contact us to discuss requirements.

OutreachArt on Tour 2020 is a FREE art outreach programme for Swindon schools. It includes pop-up gallery visits, cross-curricular workshops, and staff CPD and resources.

For adults:

Art on Tour 2020 is a community outreach programme designed to help everyone in Swindon enjoy the Collection of Modern British Art. We aim to share more art with more people in more places! Throughout 2020, the Art Collection will be appearing in venues around Swindon, alongside community learning and engagement events. Two temporary free exhibitions are on display for everyone to enjoy at STEAM Museum and Swindon Borough Council Civic Offices. We are working with cultural venues and events, healthcare and wellbeing organisations, businesses and community centres to offer more temporary exhibitions and pop-up galleries. There is a talks and tours programme to support enjoyment of these exhibitions, and those at the main gallery.
