About our crematorium and cemeteries

Our service

Kingsdown cemetery and crematorium is set in 30 acres of mature, open space, where visitors can easily find a place for quiet reflection.

A large, 10-bedroom manor house once stood on the grounds, and some of the original garden walls and the ha-ha are still in place. The history of Kingsdown House is extensive and interesting to say the least. The derelict house was finally demolished and the crematorium opened in April 1966. Since then, it has carried out over 89,000 cremations.

Bereavement Services team

Based at Kingdown crematorium, the bereavement services team provides a professional, caring and sensitive service for people at a difficult time in their lives. We are able to give helpful advice and guidance about cremations and burials, and on final resting places and memorials.

Each member of the team takes pride in the fact all funeral services and arrangements are conducted with the upmost respect for the deceased, the bereaved and other members of the public. They can help you make informed choices and access any help you may need when dealing with the arrangements, or making plans for the future.

Our offices at Kingsdown crematorium holds registers relating to burials and cremations that have taken place at Kingsdown cemetery and crematorium, Radnor Street cemetery and Whitworth Road cemetery. All records were manually documented until 1993, when a computerised system was introduced.

If you are interested in researching family history, requests can be made to the office via email, in writing or in person. Depending on the amount of time it takes to manually search the records, there may be a fee involved for the information requested. Alternatively, you are welcome to come and search through the records. Please be aware you will need to make an appointment in advance.
