Child sexual exploitation (CSE) is a form of child abuse that puts young people at serious risk of harm. It can have a devastating impact on their physical, emotional and psychological well-being.

Recognising the signs

CSE can be difficult to spot, but some common warning signs include:

  • changes in behaviour, such as becoming withdrawn or secretive
  • drug or alcohol misuse
  • going missing from home or school
  • relationships with controlling or older individuals
  • unexplained gifts, money, or new possessions

Reporting a concern

Taking action early can help protect vulnerable children from harm. If you suspect a child is at risk of sexual exploitation:

  • call 999 if they are in immediate danger
  • call 101 to report concerns to Wiltshire Police
  • if you have concerns about a specific child but they are not in immediate danger, contact Children and Families, Contact Swindon
