Egyptian Gallery - Temporary Closure

The museum's Egyptian Gallery will be closed from 16th March for essential maintenance work.  We hope to re-open the room on Wednesday 25th March.

Easter Holidays

The Swindon Museum and Art Gallery will be closed on Good Friday (3rd April) and will re-open on Saturday 4th April.  During the Easter school holidays, the venue will be open Wednesday – Saturday, 10am-3pm.

The Swindon Museum and Art Gallery are housed together in a building in the Old Town area of Swindon.

Swindon's remarkable art collection now has a reputation as one of the best of British 20th Century Art outside London. It was established by local benefactor, H J P Bomford, during 1944 from a generous donation of works.

Swindon Museum has displays of local history, archaeology and geology. The museum displays tell the story of Swindon's Jurassic past, its connections with the Roman Empire and the more recent social history of this thriving town.

Swindon Museum and Art Gallery have various events running throughout the year, for full details please see our Events Calendar.

Exhibition Space

Swindon Museum and Art Gallery has two galleries on the ground floor that are sometimes available for community/local exhibitions. If you are a local organisation that has an idea for an exhibition, please contact us at least 9 to 12 months in advance at smag@swindon.gov.uk to discuss further. Unfortunately, we cannot accommodate every request to use these spaces.
