Supporting Victims

The effects ASB can have on victims victim of ASB

We know that being a victim or witness of anti-social behaviour impacts on peoples lives. How much of an impact and effect it has will depend on the individual, their circumstances and the type of anti-social behaviour experienced.

Some of the emotions and feelings people tell us they experience are:
  • Anger
  • Frustration
  • Fearful
  • Depression
  • Helplessness
  • Personal guilt, failure
  • Physical illness
  • Isolation
Coping mechanisms

Everyone has their own way of coping when problems affect their lives.  There is no right or wrong way of dealing with them, it is what you feel comfortable with and what works for you. Some of the things that victims have found helpful are:

  • To share what is happening to you and how it makes you feel, talk to friends, family and colleagues about what you are experiencing.
  • If you are not able to share your experiences then sometimes it is helpful to write them down, Being able to read the experiences can be reassuring and help to keep you balanced.
  • Make an appointment with your Doctor, they may be able to help with any physical and psychological feelings you are going through.

Don’t suffer in silence, seek help.
