Swindon Borough Council’s Health and Wellbeing team will be out and about across Swindon over the next couple of weeks promoting some of the volunteer opportunities that are available in the town.

Volunteering is a great way of meeting new people, getting involved in the community and benefitting from new experiences.

The Council’s volunteering team has already met local people in Pinehurst, Wroughton and the Parks in recent days and will be at the following locations over the next two weeks:

  • Tuesday, 22 October at Penhill Community Centre between 1pm and 3pm
  • Thursday, 24 October at Haydon Centre and Gym between 9.30am and 12noon
  • Friday, 25 October at Redhouse Community Centre between 9.10am and 11.10am
  • Tuesday, 29 October at Toothill Community Centre between 9.30am and 11.30am
  • Thursday, 31 October at Broadgreen Community Centre between 9.30am and 11.30am

Current volunteering opportunities include befriending lonely members of the community with Swindon Circles, being a Local Hero volunteer and helping with small, one-off tasks to help those who have no one to turn to.

There is also the opportunity to get involved with Forget Me Not Cakes where volunteers bake cakes for clients that have no one in their life to remember their birthday.

Councillor Brian Ford, Swindon Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Adults and Health, said: “Volunteering is a fantastic way to improve your own wellbeing as well as giving something back to your local community.

“There are lots of ways you can get involved, so if you can spare a few hours and want to help deliver a worthwhile project, please come along to one of the drop-in sessions and find out how you could make a difference.”
