SEND services in the spotlight at special event for parents and carers
An event which highlights the services available to young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) is being held at STEAM next Tuesday (12 March).

The Local Offer Big Day is aimed at people aged up to 25 and their families and will highlight all the services the Council and other organisations can offer those with special educational needs and disabilities.
The event will be held between 12.30pm and 5.30pm, and there will be an opportunity to speak to those who deliver the services and find out how they can help those who need support.
Advice and guidance on statutory services, financial matters, community activities, adaptations and equipment and help transitioning from children’s services to adult services will be among the topics covered on the day.
The event comes after a recent inspection of Swindon’s Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) services where users of the services requested more opportunities to find out about the help and support available.
Those who attend the event will also get the chance to provide feedback on the current services as part of the Council’s ongoing improvement programme.
Councillor Mary Martin, Swindon Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Children, said; “I hope as many as possible of the 6,000-plus people who use our SEND services will come along and speak to us. We are very keen to listen to what they have to say.
“We are working hard to improve our SEND offer and this event is a good way of engaging with service users and their families to talk them through some of the services that may be available to them.”
