Council joins Swindon Town in helping fans to unlock their sporting memories
Football legends from Swindon Town will be on hand at a special event for people with dementia.

The Sporting Memories event has been organised by Swindon Town Football in the Community Trust and Swindon Borough Council to use the power of sporting memories to improve the wellbeing of older people by tackling dementia, social isolation and depression.
Town legends Don Rogers and John Trollope will be joined by former club chairman Gary Herbert at the County Ground on Wednesday (14 Nov) to reminisce about past games and stimulate fun conversation and debate.
Those attending will enjoy a tour of the stadium, take part in a sporting quiz and share memories of their favourite games, goals and players.
Clive Maguire, Senior Football Development Officer for Swindon Town Football in the Community, said: “Dementia is something close to many of our hearts, here at the Club.
“Hosting this event is our way of acknowledging this, and doing our bit to support our fans who are living with dementia.”
Councillor Brian Ford, Swindon Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Adults, said: “Sport is a great way of bringing people together, but it also forms a big part of people’s lives.
“Sporting Memories has proved to be a different approach to tackling dementia by stimulating people’s minds and I’m sure all those attending on Wednesday will be thrilled to reminisce about their favourite Town moment with two of Swindon’s greatest ever players and a former club chairman.”
