Armed Forces Day celebrations return to Lydiard Park
Swindon will once again honour its serving personnel, veterans and military families, with Armed Forces Day celebrations taking place at Lydiard Park on Saturday, 20 June, from 11am to 4.30pm.

The event will offer a packed programme of activities, performances and family attractions, including military demonstrations and the opportunity to meet cadet groups and organisations supporting the Armed Forces community.
The day is part funded by the Ministry of Defence, who recently granted over £430,000 to 130 community groups and local authorities, including £5,000 to Swindon.
Armed Forces Day forms part of the nationwide celebration recognising the dedication and sacrifice of those who serve in the Royal Navy, British Army, Royal Air Force, as well as reservists, veterans and their families.
A wide range of community stalls, crafts and family‑friendly activities, including a funfair, will run throughout the day, alongside varied food options. Free parking will also be available.
Live entertainment will feature performances from the Gurkhas, cadets and a brass band, adding to the celebratory atmosphere.
Councillor Gary Sumner, Leader of Swindon Borough Council, said: “Armed Forces Day is an opportunity for our whole community to come together and show our gratitude to those who serve and have served.
“Swindon stands shoulder to shoulder with our veterans, and everyone connected with the armed forces, and we are proud to host this event at Lydiard Park once again. I look forward to welcoming residents, families and visitors for a day of celebration and reflection.”
Councillor Leanne Stevenson, Armed Forces Champion for Swindon Borough Council, said: “As a veteran, I know first-hand the commitment, resilience and camaraderie that define our Armed Forces community. Armed Forces Day is a chance not only to say thank you, but to bring people together to recognise the sacrifices made by service personnel and their families. I encourage residents to come along to our fantastic event and show their support by honouring those who have served.”
