Sanctuary Supported Living (SSL) has taken on further delivery of support for homeless people in Swindon following a recent tender.

The national care and support provider will be delivering personalised support for all 20 residents of Culvery Court, under a contract with Swindon Borough Council.

The development means that SSL will now be both landlord and support provider for the short-term accommodation service, which it owned prior to the agreement being reached.

There will be no disruption to the service delivered to existing residents at Culvery Court and all staff who delivered support under the previous provider have been successfully transferred to the new contract.

Councillor Cathy Martyn, Swindon Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Housing and Public Safety, said: “Sanctuary are a long standing partner of the Council and we are very much looking forward to this latest opportunity of working with them.

“Preventing homelessness is at the heart of the Council’s Housing Service and our housing providers are a vital element of ensuring that those in the greatest need are supported in the best way possible, and given that all important opportunity to start again.”

SSL also operates a number of other services in the Swindon area, including supported housing for people with disabilities, other homeless clients and a service for people with mental health needs in close proximity.

SSL area service manager Steve Coare said: “This announcement means the residents of Culvery Court will benefit from the shared expertise SSL has in providing personalised support, both in the areas of homelessness and associated needs such as mental health, at a number of other services in the area.

“We’re working to ensure our residents at Culvery Court benefit from that same high quality level of personalised support.”

Residents using or arriving at the service are also set to benefit from a donation of 20 mattresses, provided by Dreams, the UK’s leading bed specialist, and organised by Sanctuary’s community investment programme.
