Report a rogue trader

Rogue traders appear to be professional tradespeople, but charge high prices for poor work or leave the work unfinished. They often use printed leaflets and well-kept vehicles to trick people.

They give little or no paperwork so it is difficult to trace them once they have left your home. They target vulnerable people and provide false contact details. Their only concern is to get cash and disappear before Trading Standards or the police can catch them.

They usually offer to:

  • clean a garden
  • replace loose tiles
  • repair a chimney stack
  • repair a leaky roof

You should not feel pressured to say ’yes’ to any work or service you don’t want.

If you feel afraid or threatened by a doorstep caller, phone 999. For non-urgent situations, phone Wiltshire Police on 101.

If you are targeted by a rogue trader and want to report an incident, you can report it to Swindon Trading Standards by completing our online form.
