Advice to minimise the risk of flooding
The Environment Agency helps to reduce the risk to people and property from rivers and the sea. They also help to maintain the majority of permanent flood defences and advise local authorities on the impact of new developments on or near floodplains.
The Environment Agency 24-hour Floodline Number is 0345 988 1188 (normal local call rates apply).
The National Flood Forum also provides useful advice in their Ready for flooding: Before, during and after leaflet (PDF).
Preliminary flood risk assessment
This has been compiled using information on past flooding in the Borough of Swindon. By looking back at past events, the assessment has identified sites that are at potential flood risk and evaluates flood risk from surface water, ordinary water courses, rivers and ground water.
The assessment is a key element that the Council will be using to identify potential flood risk. We have developed a surface Water Management Plan which will enable us to provide a strategy for detailing with flood risk within the borough.
