Educational support for looked after children
LACES (Looked After Children's Educational Services) provides additional educational support for children in care. The support is provided by teachers and academic mentors who work with the children. There is also a 'Virtual Head' who is responsible for monitoring the academic progress of each child in care.
All children in care must have in place a Personal Education Plan that is supported by LACES. This plan takes into account the child’s overall behaviour as well as their academic development. The plan is reviewed regularly and involves a number of parties, including the child's:
- Social worker
- Foster Carers
This service also provides educational advice support and training to Social Workers, Foster Carers and Schools Staff.
