COVID-19 - Business rates relief and cash grants

In response the ongoing situation regarding coronavirus (COVID-19), the Chancellor announced on 17 March 2020 that full rate relief was being granted to all retail, leisure and hospitality businesses for the financial year starting 1 April 2020.

We have also been advised that childcare providers will also not have to pay business rates. However, we await confirmation on this.

The Chancellor also advised that a £10,000 cash grant for each business currently eligible for Small Business Rates Relief or Rural Rate Relief would be paid in the near future. £10,000 would also be paid to businesses qualifying for Retail Relief with a rateable value of less than £15,000.

A grant of £25,000 was also promised for retail, leisure and hospitality businesses with a rateable value over £15,000 and below £51,000.

We are still awaiting full information about this, in order that we can determine who will be eligible for these grants.

You do not need to contact us regarding these changes. Once we have the full details we will identify all eligible ratepayers and contact them accordingly.

In the meantime we are working towards identifying all of those accounts that we believe will be eligible for the 100% rates relief with the aim of ensuring that Direct Debit payments are not collected on 1 April 2020.
