The Health Hydro

In March 2021 the Town Fund awarded £5million to the Health Hydro on Milton Road which, combined with £1.5million from the council, will enable a full refurbishment.

Over the next year we will be planning:

  • enhancements to the leisure facilities housed within the building
  • repairs and maintenance to the structure of the building
  • additional works to highlight the building's historical features

This is a fantastic opportunity to enhance one of Swindon’s most remarkable buildings, put it on a sustainable footing for the future and create a unique leisure and heritage attraction to draw people into Swindon’s town centre. More information to follow.

Additional funding through the Heritage Action Zone will enliven the outside of the building through signage and decoration and seek to reconnect the Health Hydro to the railway village by reconsidering the pedestrian crossings on Faringdon Road.

In November 2019, the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS), on the advice of Historic England, designated the Health Hydro a Grade II* listing. Less than 6% of listed buildings are Grade II* designated and this means it is a particularly important building of more than special interest.
