Murals around the Mechanics’ Institute

With funding from Historic England’s HAZ and Heritage Schools programmes and from the Town Deal, we have been collaborating with Artsite, 12 local artists, 11 local schools and some willing volunteers to create a series of murals for the hoardings around the Mechanics’ Institute in Emlyn Square.

The murals tell the story of the Railway Village and its key buildings and are supported by themed information boards. A large pictorial map has also been created to show the locations of the historic buildings and help people navigate around the area.

All the artworks created by local schoolchildren will be on display at Artsite Open Studios, Theatre Square, Swindon. SN1 1QN on the weekend of 17 and 18 September.
