Apply for a licence to operate a riding establishment
Animal licensing is changing
From 1 October 2018, licences for this activity will be issued under the The Animal Welfare (Licensing of Activities Involving Animals) (England) Regulations 2018. The full text of the regulations can be found on the Government Legislation website.
The guidance for this new legislation has just been published and can be found on the Canine and Feline Sector Group website.

Riding establishments must be licensed if they hire horses out for riding, or for the purposes of providing riding instruction, in return for payment.
Licences must be renewed annually on any date.

How to pay
The licence fee is £150 per year.
Licences are issued under the Riding Establishments Act 1970.
