Reading Ahead

Did you know that one in six adults lack confidence in their reading abilities?

We can help you build that confidence or rediscover your love of reading if you’ve got out of the habit!

Formerly called the Six Book Challenge, Reading Ahead invites you to pick six reads, which can be anything from books, magazines, newspapers, eBooks, a poem or even a website and record them in a diary to get a certificate and entry into a national and a local prize draw.

Participants can also log onto and create a profile on a dedicated Reading Ahead website to share their reviews and get ideas on what to read.

Reading Ahead is aimed at young people and adults who want to increase their reading confidence and build a love of reading, something we at Swindon Libraries want to encourage.

Anyone who would find reading 6 reads between now and the end of June 2017 when Reading Ahead ends a challenge can register at any Swindon Library.

To keep you reading whenever you’ve completed a read go back to the library and tell the staff what you’ve read to get freebies from Pens to free DVD rentals!

Those that complete 6 reads will get entered into the prize draws and will be invited to a special event at the Central Library in Summer 2017.

We also need businesses and other organisations to get involved to encourage those that work with and for you to take up the challenge. We’ll do all the hard work, visit your locations to spread the word and give you advice and encouragement and how to get your staff reading.
