Become a friend of Swindon libraries
Friends of libraries are independent groups of volunteers who support and promote their local library through various activities such as:
- Fund raising
- Voluntary work
- Raising the profile of the library in the community
- Encouraging use of library facilities
- Arranging social and literary events
- Giving ideas and taking part in consultations for developing the library service and its buildings
They function independently of the library service with their own constitution and funds and objectives, but work in close cooperation with library staff.
Being a member of a friends group enables you to:
- Understand more about the library service
- Influence the future development of your local library
- Meet friends with similar interests and concerns
- Make a difference in your community.
We already have successful examples of friends groups at our Highworth, Covingham and Wroughton libraries, however we are looking to start up friends groups at the following libraries:
- Central
- Liden
- Moredon and Rodbourne Cheney
- North Swindon
- Park
- Penhill
- Pinetress (Pinehurst)
- Upper Stratton
- Walcot
- West Swindon
If you think you might be interested in getting involved please either contact your local library or email libraryvolunteers@swindon.gov.uk. We will send you further information and dates of coffee mornings that you can explore further.
