COVID-19 - Reopening our libraries
'Quick Choice' browsing sessions
Quick Choice offers customers the opportunity to browse a small selection of stock and choose books.
At North Swindon and Highworth libraries, sessions must be pre-booked by telephone or online. These sessions are for 15 minutes.
At Central, Park and West Swindon libraries, no advance booking is required. Sessions are for a maximum of 30 minutes.
Before you visit
These sessions are self-service only. There will be no staff assistance for choosing books, using the self-service machines or resolving account queries.
To use Quick Choice you need to bring your library card with you, know the PIN and have an active account.
You can check your account by logging in online, or by calling one of our libraries during opening hours.
Ensure you arrive wearing your mask or face covering as you will be required to wear this for the duration of your visit. You will also be required to follow social distancing guidance at all times and use the hand sanitiser provided.
Please do not visit the library if you have any symptoms of COVID-19.
NHS Test and Trace
When you visit the library you will need to provide personal details in order to comply with the government’s requirements for Test and Trace. You will need to either scan the QR code for the NHS app or complete the paper slip provided.

How to book your slot for Quick Choice at North Swindon and Highworth libraries
You will need to book your slot in advance. You can do this:
- online via the Quick Choice booking form
- by phoning the library you wish to visit. You need to call during the library's staffed opening hours.
- North Swindon Library - 01793 707120
- Highworth Library - 01793 463500
For online bookings you will receive an e-mail confirmation with terms and conditions. For phone bookings you will receive confirmation during the call.
There will be a limited number of slots available to allow for social distancing of staff and customers. Slots will begin on the hour and on the half hour to allow for the cleaning of self-service equipment between sessions.
Each slot booked is for one adult only, but you can bring one child with you for this slot.
What to expect when you arrive
You may need to queue outside. If so, please follow social distancing guidelines.
Please drop off any books for return on entry to the library. Returned books will be returned off your account by staff after a 72 hour quarantine.
Use the hand sanitiser provided.
Your Quick Choice session includes time for choosing books and issuing them at the self-service machine. At the end of your session, you will be asked to leave to allow staff time to clean the self-service machines.
The range of stock will include selections of adult fiction, children’s books and a limited range of popular non-fiction.
You will not have access to the entire library. Quick Choice will be in a designated area.
Don’t forget, if you know what titles you want to borrow, you can reserve these free of charge online or by ringing a library during opening hours. If you are happy for us to choose books for you, you can use our Click, Call and Collect service.
If you have Click, Call and Collect items to pick up, you can collect these as you exit the library. They will be already be issued to your library card.
