Report an odour nuisance

Odours from trade or business premises may be a nuisance in certain circumstances. If you are suffering as a result, read the process notes below and, where appropriate report the problem to us.

Report an odour nuisance from trade premises online

For us to investige a situation as a 'statutory nuisance' the situation would need to be regular and significantly affecting you in your home.

The process to follow

Initially you should make an attempt to resolve the problem. For example by:

Meeting with the person or organisation causing the nuisance problem to discuss and resolve it.
Writing to them and, politely, encouraging them to take steps to resolve the issue.
Entering into a formal process of mediations; for example, by involving Mediation Plus.

If your initial approaches fail to get the desired result, report the problem to us using the online reporting form above. On receipt of the report, an Environmental Protection Officer will call to discuss the issue with you and offer the appropriate advice and guidance, usually within three to five days.
