Consultation on Kingshill Road air quality action plan
We are responsible for monitoring and managing air quality in the Borough. Where pollutants in the air exceed limits set by Government in an area where people live or work, we have an obligation to declare this an Air Quality Management Area.
In February this year, the Council declared part of the Kingshill Road area in Swindon an Air Quality Management Area.
Air quality monitoring in this area found that nitrogen dioxide (NO2) levels exceeded the annual average limit. The Council issued a media release and published a Cabinet paper which is available on the Air Quality webpage, along with other information about air quality in Swindon.
In September we ran an event, inviting all residents to talk to us about the air quality issue, which generated some really good conversation and provided useful feedback.
The Council established an Air Quality Management Steering Group to develop and oversee the implementation of actions that aim to reduce the harms of NO2 exposure within the Air Quality Management Area. A large amount of work has gone into looking at a wide range of options to improve the air quality of Kingshill, some of which will need to be explored further. We are now in a position to consult with residents on the work we have done so far. The results of this consultation will feed into a plan which we intend to take to Cabinet in March 2019.
The consultation is taking place between Friday, 21 December 2018 and Sunday, 3 February 2019. We would encourage as many residents as possible to respond to the consultation as we would very much appreciate your feedback on our plan.
