Draft Parking Standards for New Development consultation

The parking requirements for all new development were originally set out in a Parking Standards Policy in 2007. Every application for planning permission since then has been assessed for its compliance with those standards.

It states that all new development in the borough must include suitable facilities for the parking of cars, bicycles and where appropriate, motorcycles. This is to ensure that, where possible, the main routes are kept car free, preventing congestion and keeping the roads safe for all users. In addition, the provision of facilities for cyclists encourages more sustainable travel habits.

Since the Parking Standards policy was adopted, there have been changes in national policy and so we now need to update our requirements. The updated Parking Standards policy and associated maps are available to view below:

The results of the consultation process will be reported to the council’s Planning Committee later this year. All comments received by the above date will be considered. The new Parking Standards policy, with any amendments, will be formally adopted as a planning document.
