    Autumnal walk at Coate Water Park.

    Surprisingly near to Coate Water, but only accessible by foot, is a secret valley. Surrounded by trees the changing colours of Autumn are an amazing sight, on this 4-mile, gentle stroll. Suitable for dogs. Meet at Coate Water Ranger Centre. Please wear warm clothes to suit the weather, stout boots, and bring waterproofs. Event leader Michael Lilley.     During the 1970s, Peter Burgess was Head of Ceramics at Swindon School of Art and advised Swindon Museum and Art Gallery on establishing its collection of studio ceramics.

    This exhibition brings together some of Swindon’s earliest and most important ceramic acquisitions, including work by Hans Coper, Lucy Rie, Katharine Pleydell-Bouverie and Ray Finch. Burgess passed away in 2016. Image: Hans Coper, Large Vessel, early 1970s

    Peter Waldron’s bold, abstract paintings are inspired by the rhythm, colour and energy of natural forms.

    This exhibition explores the artist’s life and career to date and brings together a selection of his paintings and sketches. Waldron was born in Swindon in 1941. After training as a mechanical engineer, he attended Swindon School of Art. He later went on to Chelsea School of Art and worked as an assistant to Patrick Caulfield. After embarking on a successful solo career, he has had numerous exhibitions in Britain and Crete, where he now lives and works each winter.

    Follow the famous journey of King George V and North Star as they travelled to America as part of the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad centenary celebrations.

    Find out some fascinating facts, including what compelled the GWR to send their flagship King Class engine on this 18 day epic voyage of over 3,500 miles to compete alongside 30 other engines from all over the world. You're sure to be intrigued as you discover many original GWR exhibits not previously on public display. These include an original Baltimore and Ohio Railroad Centenary Exhibition Catalogue, newspaper cuttings, a Souvenir booklet, Centenary china and King George V's Replica Bell. You'll also get to find out the reason why the GWR had to make a replica of King George V's famous bell! Going to America is located in the special exhibition area on STEAM's recreated 1930s Station Platform, just next to the great King George V. Entry is free with admission and to STEAM Season Ticket holders.
