Publication scheme and open data catalogue - Patient Group Directions (PGDs) for the supply of stop smoking medications
- Description
-
All material on this page is aimed at healthcare professionals working in Swindon.
These Patient Group Directions (PGDs) set out how approved stop smoking medicines can be supplied safely and consistently without a prescription in Swindon and are authorised by Swindon Borough Council.
These PGDs may be used only within the confines of the service specification commissioned by Swindon Borough Council for Public Health.
The National PGD templates that underpin Swindon’s local versions have been:
- peer reviewed by the Smoking Cessation Short Life Working Group, in line with its terms of reference
- endorsed by the NHS England national specialty adviser for tobacco dependency
- approved by the Specialist Pharmacy Service Medicines Governance Do Once Programme Board
We have solely commissioned community pharmacy to deliver these Stop Smoking PGDs up until their stated expiry dates.
Further details on the commissioning arrangement are available on the Swindon page of the Community Pharmacy Avon and Wiltshire website.
Pharmacists delivering these services are responsible for ensuring they are working to the current PGD and have signed the required competency declaration.
For further questions regarding these PGDs, email: publichealth@swindon.gov.uk
