What To Do If You Receive an Invitation To Attend an Overview & Scrutiny Committee Meeting

More information for elected members

If you are an elected Member and would like more information about your role in the Overview & Scrutiny process, please read the Member Guide (992 KB, PDF document)

A Guide to Questioning has also been produced to assist Members to develop their questioning and listening skills as part of Overview and Scrutiny reviews.

More information for Officers From Swindon Borough Council and Partner Organisations

In order to carry out an effective Overview & Scrutiny review, Committees are reliant upon information from officers who are experts in their field, whether from within the local authority or from a partner organisation.

The Scrutiny Unit will inform relevant officers as soon as possible when a request for information has been made, and will outline:

  • the nature of the information required
  • whether attendance at a Committee meeting is necessary
  • deadlines for reports
  • details of when and where the meeting is taking place.

For more information for officers about participating in the Overview & Scrutiny process, please click on the above link.

More information on Health Overview & Scrutiny

The Health Overview & Scrutiny Committee has specific statutory powers in addition to the other Overview & Scrutiny Committees.

A Guide to Health Scrutiny has been produced for elected members, NHS officers and non-executive directors and anyone else with an interest in the work of the Committee to provide more information about the Health Scrutiny function.
