Electronic Government

Electronic Government, or 'E-government' as it is sometimes known, is a major ongoing development for all local authorities and other government bodies. E-government is not just one initiative but a series of developments to provide:

  • The delivery of access to consumer services by electronic means
  • Common platforms of operation through local, regional and central government
  • The infrastructure to support electronic interaction between the various goverment bodies

Each local authority is required to provide a statement of intended actions that will deliver E-government by the end of 2005. This is known as the Implementing Electronic Government (IEG) statement.

The first phase of this initiative was mapped out in July 2001. Since then, annual reviews have taken place, the most recent being in the summer of 2005. The latest IEG submissions by Swindon Borough Council are contained in the downloadable files below.
