Facebook
What is Facebook?
Facebook (www.facebook.com) is a new social networking tool that connects people with friends and others who work, study and live around them. People use Facebook to keep up with friends, upload photos, share links and videos, and learn more about the people they meet. Users engage with others by creating a profile, linking to other people and joining or creating groups on topics they are interested in.
Facebook has recently been adopted by an increasing number of political candidates to showcase their views and engage with voters, especially the young.
Why is Swindon Borough Council using Facebook?
Voting matters – it can make a difference in our neighbourhoods and communities as well as our day-to-day lives. Swindon Borough Council wants to do everything it can to help ensure that citizens vote in elections, and is always keen to find new ways to engage with electors.
Swindon has launched a special Swindon election group on Facebook to help make it easier for citizens to find out information about the election and to exchange ideas with others who are interested in participating in the democratic process.
