Visiting Swindon

Swindon Art Gallery

Swindon's remarkable art collection now has a reputation as one of the best of British 20th Century Art outside London. Housed in the Swindon Art Gallery, it was established by local benefactor, H J P Bomford, during 1944 from a generous donation of works.

New exhibition

Echoes: uniting sculptures with a selection of paintings from the Swindon Collection of Modern British Art, co-curated by sculptor James Castle. The exhibition is complemented by a talk by James Castle, and a workshop for children in October 2008.

See here for Echoes leaflet as a pdf.

Free talk

Echoes - a talk by James Castle Friday 10 October 7.30 pm

Free admission

An opportunity to discover more about the Echoes exhibition and the "exciting challenge" of building a relationship between sculpture and paintings, along with an insight into the creative process behind James Castle's work, from initial drawings to small scale models and the finished sculptures.

The talk is presented in association with the Friends of Swindon Museum & Art Gallery. The Friends will hold their Annual General Meeting after the talk, following a short break.

Appeal

Do you have any photos, pictures or memories of Queens Park in Swindon? The Art Galllery would love to hear from you, as they are putting together an exhibition to support a community consultation process, as part of a restoration plan. Please contact Barbara Dixon with your thoughts.
