Visiting Swindon

Lechlade-on-Thames

Lechlade-on-ThamesLechlade-on-Thames is a small, attractive town nestling on the banks of the River Thames. With a variety of shops, restaurants and leisure facilities, Lechlade is the perfect place to spend a day enjoying the ambience of the beautiful Cotswold region.

The 15th Century Church of St Lawrence, which was built from local stone, was previously named the Church of St Mary. This was renamed in 1502 on the orders of Catherine of Aragon, the first of King Henry VIII's six wives, after one of the saints from her native Aragon in Spain.

Alongside the River Thames at Lechlade is the Riverside Park. The park, which is run by Swindon Borough Council, is the perfect place to walk along the river or take a picnic to sit and watch the many river boats.
