Councillors' Code of Conduct

Councillors' Code of Conduct

About the Standards Committee of Swindon Borough Council

The Standards Committee of Swindon Borough Council is responsible for promoting and maintaining high standard of Conduct within the Council.  It is also responsible for considering complaints that a Borough Councillor may have breached the Members Code of Conduct.

The Council has adopted a Members’ Code of Conduct based on the National Model Code.  Under that Code Members are also required to complete a register of interests and these can be accessed from individual Members’ web pages.  A number of other Codes and Protocols, together with the Members Code of Conduct, are included within the Council’s Constitution.  These documents may also be inspected at the Civic Offices, Euclid Street.

In addition, the Parish Councils within the Borough of Swindon have each adopted a Code of Conduct.  Copies of these and Parish Councillors’ Registers of Interest can be obtained from the relevant Town or Parish Clerk.  The Standards Committee is also responsible for considering complaints against Parish Councillors.

Responsibility for Considering Complaints

If you want to complain that a member of co-opted member of Swindon Borough Council, or a member of any Town or Parish Council within the Borough of Swindon, has failed to comply with the appropriate Code of Conduct, you should complete the Complaints Form and send it to:

Swindon Borough Council
Civic Offices
