Tree-related Property Damage

Making a Claim for Tree-related Property Damage

If you believe your property has been damaged as a result of vegetation under the control of Swindon Borough Council, please note that when dealing with a property displaying movement, there are often a variety of factors involved that are causing structural failure. When trying to establish the cause it is necessary to fully examine the ground conditions.

This investigation process should examine amongst other issues the method of construction, the nature of the ground and its composition and bearing capacity, drainage issues, root identification and the extent to which any repairs can be carried out to overcome any site problems. Due to the technical expertise required to prepare this evidence, we recommend that you contact your building insurers, as they can appoint the arboricultural and structural experts needed to determine the cause of the movement.

Should your building insurers be unable to assist you, you will need to instruct your own structural engineer or other such professional who can carry out a site investigation. Should their report implicate vegetation under the control of Swindon Borough Council, please forward all available information to the Insurance Section.
