This section of the website deals with liability claims against the Council. Please follow the links to the right for information about each type of claim and for access to the appropriate forms.
Making a Liability Claim Against the Council
We must advise you that there is no automatic right to compensation. Before any recompense can be made it will be necessary for you to demonstrate that there has been negligence on the part of Swindon Borough Council and that you have suffered an injury or loss.
Please be assured that all legitimate claims are assessed individually and fairly and, where the council is to blame, we will seek to settle the claim as quickly as possible. Please note however that Swindon Borough Council has a responsibility to its council tax payers to ensure that all claims received are legitimate. The council and its insurers have an anti-fraud system in place to assist them in detecting and taking appropriate action against fraudulent claimants. This system gives the council and its insurers the right to use and share with outside agencies and neighbouring authorities the information you have provided.
