Shopmobility

Shopmobility Parking

Swindon's Shopmobility scheme is available for anyone with limited mobility and provides a selection of manually-propelled and electrically-powered wheelchairs and scooters. The aim of Shopmobility is simply to help people with mobility difficulties to be able to shop and use the facilities in Swindon's town centre.

The unit has a large comfortable waiting area, accessible toilet facilities and a kitchen where hot or cold drinks can be made for customers. It also has a hearing loop system. The reception area is fully staffed and volunteers will be on hand to offer a warm welcome. They can loan out cosy toes, rain wear, folding sticks, grabbers and portable hearing loops.

Services Available

On certain days they can also offer escorted services, escorts for people with visual problems and (with advance notice) pick-up and drop-off from the bus and rail station. Other equipment available includes more than 50 scooters, 10 power chairs and 30 manual wheel chairs.

Who Can Use The Service

Anyone with limited mobility can use the scheme, whether through permanent or temporary disability, illness, accident or age.

Location

Swindon Shopmobility is situated on the ground floor of the Wyvern Car Park in Islington Street. Parking is available when using equipment borrowed from the scheme.

Costs

If, after an initial free trial, you wish to join the scheme, the registration fee is £10.00 per year. The service is then free each time you use it. We will require proof of your identity on your first visit.
