Riverside Park, Lechlade

Riverside Park, Lechlade

How to Find Us

Map showing Location

The park is situated to the north of Swindon. From the town centre, follow signs for 'Highworth'. From Highworth, follow signs for 'Lechlade'. The Riverside Park is situated on the left of the A361 just before crossing the bridge into Lechlade.

Riverside Park is Swindon Borough Council’s most northerly park, situated just south of the Thames near the Cotswold village of Lechlade. This 19.3-acre (7.8-hectare) flood plain site is ten miles from Swindon, with access via the A361 trunk road.

The Riverside Park has grass car parks open during the summer season (from Easter to end of September, depending on ground conditions). The tarmac car park at the entrance is open all year round, with toilet facilities available adjacent to this car park.

Please note that the site is often under water during the winter months!

Attractions

The park is a very pleasant site for informal recreation, with the added bonus of there being access to the banks of the River Thames and the Thames Path National Trail. The site also has a number of picnic tables where families can relax and enjoy the picturesque surroundings.

The site boasts young and mature tree belts and three large fields, one of which is used for parking. The Riverside Park has the River Coln on its western boundary, the Thames to the north, the A361 to the east and agricultural fields to the south.

There is a large area of reedbeds in the north-eastern corner that is home to many species of birds in the summer. The Thames is also home to many species of waterfowl, fish, including trout, bream and perch, along with insects, notably dragonflies and damselflies.

Other facilities, such as shops, pubs and public telephones can be found across the river in the picturesque village of Lechlade.
